Tamarin and the surrounding areas
offer a wide range of water sports.
Surf
Tamarin Bay is known as the best
surfing spot on the island, for
beginners and experienced surfers
alike. When conditions are right,
you can pipeline ride … a fantastic
experience for surfers!
Windsurf/Kite surf
The lagoon at the foot of Le Morne
Brabant mountain, less than a 15
minute drive from Tamarin, is a
windsurfers and kite surfers
paradise. It is the best
windsurfing/kite surfing spot in
Mauritius with a flat, shallow
surface on one side and huge perfect
swells on the other, set in a
turquoise lagoon bordered by a white
sandy beach. This spot entertains
all levels of windsurfers and kite
surfers, from beginners to experts,
because of its exposure to winds
varying from low to very strong
intensity. It has ideal windsurfing
and kite surfing conditions
throughout the year. Nearby centres
and hotels offer windsurfing and
kite surfing lessons for those who
want to learn or improve their
technique.
Snorkelling/Scuba Diving
You can snorkel or scuba dive in
crystal-clear lagoons and discover
wonderful tropical underwater
scenery with stunning coral beds
inhabited by colourful undersea
life. On the west coast you will
find some of the most spectacular
underwater caves and fascinating
coral blocks with amazingly diverse
marine life.
Big Game Fishing
The island is renowned for being one
of the best fishing destinations
worldwide, especially for deep-sea
fishing. Besides the hunt for the
giant blue and black marlin, anglers
also catch many other exciting fish
- varieties of tuna, sailfish,
bonito, wahoo and shark. The west
coast offers some of the best
fishing, as the ocean bed drops to
75 metres just 2 kilometres from the
coast. Anglers in search of an
enthralling experience can join one
of the several fishing clubs of the
region and take part in deep-sea
fishing competitions.
Those in search of excitement and
fun can enjoy other water sports
available at the Le Morne beach
boathouse - water skiing, kayaking,
pedalos, laser sailing boats and
much more.
